Friday January 25 Erie Canal Critical Reading

Good Morning,

We'll continue looking into:
Standard 8.6.2 Outline the physical obstacles to and the economic and political facotrs involved in building a network of roads, canals, and railroads.

First you'll share your answer to whether or not you would travel West in the early 1800's.
Next grab an Erie Canal Handout and the Summarizing and Nonfiction activity

  1. Read the first paragraph and the last. With a neighbor predict the details in the article.
  2. Next number the paragraphs
  3. Now read through the entire article - underlining the main ideas and circling key terms.
  4. With your neighbor share the main ideas and key terms you've underlined. Use the Summarizing and Nonfiction activity to write down the key terms you'll define.
  5. Next I'll walk you through the first entries on the Summarizing and Nonfiction activity
  6. You'll finish the columns on your own.
